Don’t Beat Yourself Over It!! explores the player’s simultaneous role as spectator and performer within a videogame. A modified version of Punch-Out!! places the artist/player in combat against a representation of himself, turning interaction into a staged confrontation with the self. The difficulty increases with each successive level until the game becomes impossible to defeat, transforming an otherwise familiar progression system into an unwinnable cycle of repetition, competition, and self-opposition.
